Dear Friends:

I have a big birthday coming up, and as I reflect on my life and career, I am overwhelmed by feelings of love and gratitude for the many friends and fans I have met through Jesus Christ Superstar! I cherish the deep bonds that we have formed through the years.

Some of you know that I also have a cherished relationship with Rubicon Theatre, an intimate jewel of a theatre company in Ventura, California. I am honored to have helped found this professional nonprofit 25 years ago and to have a voice in the vision of the theatre and its direction.

The opening of Rubicon Theatre Company in Ventura back in 1998 is a special memory that will be with me forever. It was the last time Carl Anderson and I performed the show together. Over the years, I have acted onstage, produced and performed concerts and special events, spoken on behalf of the company, attended shows regularly, and even consulted on technical needs. Rubicon is my theatre home and heart.

The theatre, which is in an historic church from the 1920s, will be renovated this spring and Rubicon Co-Founder Jim O’Neil (Pontius Pilate in the 1990’s A.D. JCS Tour for those of you who may remember), recently reached out to ask if the company could name the balcony in my honor, which he wanted to announce on my birthday. I was touched and surprised, especially as I know how incredibly difficult it has been for Rubicon and other live performing arts organizations coming out of the pandemic hiatus.

For my milestone birthday, here’s what I’d like to ask:

I don’t want anything for myself, truly. What I would like is for those who can, to make a generous tax-deductible contribution to Rubicon in my honor, and to be there for my special birthday. There are several options for event tickets, which include a special screening of the 2021 independently produced film “Superstars,” a private dinner, and a reveal of the plans for the balcony, with proceeds supporting Rubicon’s recovery. In these troubled times, more than ever we need places like Rubicon to help remind us of our shared humanity.
