Professional Stage Management - $240

Taught by Jessie Vacchiano

Online via ZOOM!

Jun. 17 - Aug. 5

2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

In weekly sessions over eight weeks, aspiring professionals get a complete history of stage management and learn the skills needed to excel in this key position in the theatre. Taught by Rubicon’s Director of Production and Operations Jessie Vacchiano (whose numerous credits include The Kennedy Center, A.R.T., Bay Street, Laguna Playhouse and Rubicon), the class explores the overall responsibilities of the SM; the SM’s relationship with the union, theatre managers, director, designers and actors; the rehearsal process; preparation and paperwork; safety; running tech rehearsals; and how to build a resume and get a job. Students discuss various styles and approaches to the work and participate in a webinar with those currently working in the field on contracts ranging from L.A.’s 99-seat theatre plan to theme parks to regional theatre to Broadway. As part of the practicum, students may be invited to assist with the Musical Theatre Production program. Those who successfully complete the course will be able to apply for an internship or apprenticeship in stage management at Rubicon post-COVID.
