We head north late morning to PCPA Theaterfest in Santa Maria, enjoying a light box lunch and beverages along the way.
We then have excellent matinee seats for BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, a heartwarming and witty memoir from Neil Simon (the first of his autobiographical trilogy of plays that also includes Biloxi Blues and Broadway Bound). In the story, young Eugene dreams of baseball and girls while coping with life in Depression-era Brooklyn with a formidable mother, an overworked father, and a worldly older brother. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters, and you have the perfect recipe for teenage struggle and family hilarity.
After the show, the director and several cast members will meet with us to give us insights into the play and the performance.
Then we’re off to Paso Robles, where we pick up our sunset picnic dinner on the private VIP terrace with the best view of FIELD OF LIGHT AT SENSORIO. Please let us know your choice of entrée: red wine braised boneless short rib (demi, garlic chips, horseradish crème on the side), BBQ chicken breast with cilantro chimichurri on the side, Pacific salmon with pistachio dill pistou and lemon, or lentil shepherd’s pie. Side options are herb roasted potatoes with rosemary, thyme, garlic and lemon zest, Yukon gold mash potatoes, Tuscan pasta salad or vegetable quinoa; plus your choice of broccoli, French green beans or baby carrots; followed by fruit salad, salted caramel chocolate chunk brownie, lemon bar, or honey whipped goat cheese, with dried apricot and a baguette. Our meals will be provided in a souvenir keepsake tote bag with a garden salad and two drink tokens good for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
After dinner, we will have plenty of time for a leisurely walk through the magical FIELD OF LIGHT, an ethereal solar light-based sculptural experience by Internationally-acclaimed artist Bruce Munro. The walk-through installation is comprised of an array of over 58,800 stemmed spheres lit by fiber-optics, gently illuminating the landscape in subtle blooms of morphing color that describe the undulating landscape. SENSORIO has been described as the intersection of art, technology and nature -- a destination for entertainment, exploration, meditation, adventure and delight. SENSORIO honors the natural topography of the landscape and offers a wide range of amusing, mystical and kinetic experiences.
We will return that same evening.
