From the life and writings of Will Rogers
It’s election season! And long before Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart began making hay out of current events, Will Rogers entertained radio audiences nightly with his homespun philosophies, and his wry comments on subjects ranging from the two-party political system to that other two-party system (marriage) to the studio system in Hollywood. In this charming production, veteran actor Rich Hoag brings America's beloved cowboy humorist to vivid life, imbuing his character with Rogers’ irresistible wit and irrepressible charm.

George, a disillusioned academic, and Martha, his caustic wife, have just come home from a faculty party. When a handsome young professor and his mousy wife stop by for a nightcap, an innocent night of fun and games quickly turns dark and dangerous. Long-buried resentments are unleashed as George and Martha turn their rapier-sharp wits against each other, using their guests as pawns in their verbal sparring. By night’s end, the secrets of both couples are uncovered and the lies they cling to are exposed. Considered by many to be Albee’s masterpiece, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? won both a Tony Award and Drama Critic’s Circle Award for Best Play.

“My father taught me that life could be hard, but that it wasn’t impossible. I’m teaching my daughter how to eat with a spoon, brush her teeth and step up to the sink and spit.” So writes storyteller Clarinda Ross, who introduces us to three generations of charming and eccentric characters in this powerful, poignant and sweetly funny family portrait. We meet Carl, a university professor whose legacy for his daughter is little bits of wisdom she finds in his journals; Clarinda, who copes with her father’s loss while raising a daughter who is developmentally disabled; and the loving Clara, who wants to be “a big girl,” but still clings tightly to her mother’s hand. Through this beautifully told, deeply personal story, we experience the hopes, pains and joys of parenthood, and realize that sometimes we learn to be grownups through our children.
